Ghana moves up Ease of Doing Business Index

  Ghana has moved an impressive 13 places up on the Trading Across Borders in the latest World Bank Ease of Doing Business Report, an indication that the Ghana National Single Window (GNSW) programme initiated by the government is already paying off.The Doing Business 2017 report, titled '’Equal Opportunity for All', released last week, showed that Ghana was placed at position 108 out of 190 countries surveyed in the Overall Ranking of Ease

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and its IT partner-West Blue Consulting have commissioned two electronic zone facilities at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), and Tema port.The e-zone facilities which were set up as part of the Ghana National Single Window (GNSW) project will provide 24/7 customer services to exporters and importers in the country.

An expert in global trade development and facilitation from Switzerland, Tom Butterly has called on policymakers in Ghana to pay keen attention to trade facilitation to enhance administrative efficiency and attract investments.He said trade facilitation could reduce costs and time of transacting business across borders and increase predictability.

The Chief Executive Officer of the West Blue Consulting, Madam Valentina Mintah, has advised members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) that are implementing the single window systems to abide by international standards to enable them to operate effectively and efficiently in the sub-region.

A-two day African Ports Evolution, West Africa edition forum, has opened in Accra with the call for regulation and competitiveness to control the industry.

The forum was designed to provide West African government, terminal operators, port authorities and service providers up to date information on port expansion and development plans in West Africa.

It was also to provide critical insight into doing business in the region’s ports as well as highlighting the opportunities from in the oil and gas sectors.

IDF and the National Single Window Concept

The Government of Ghana, in 2011, introduced an electronic Import Declaration form to streamline import management process and facilitate the speedy clearance of goods through customs, while improving record keeping.The National Single Window concept developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in 2005 is an effort to harmonize and standardize international trade procedures and associated information flow between traders and government.
